Opt-in Email Marketing!

Your product or your list - which is more Critical?
Written by John C Vincent

With all the ballyhoo and hype surrounding the latest and greatest new program, it's easy to forget a crucial ingredient. It's the one necessary element at the heart of all Internet business.

The opt-in list.

Your product may be outstanding, but it won't make or break you.

Don't make the mistake of putting your product above everything else when it comes to your Internet marketing efforts. Don't depend on your product to earn you the wealth you deserve.

A well targeted list

If you want to purchase a luxury yacht, and give it a cool nickname, you'd better start thinking about building your list.

And not just an average list either. You're going to need a well-targeted list of subscribers.

What's more, you're going to need to build your list up until it reaches a peak number. While you're doing that, you'll have to give the people on your list valuable content that keeps them interested.

This builds trust, and a bonding relationship with your list members. That way, when your list is big enough, you can send out a properly targeted offer.

Think about it. If you have no prospects or customers, how can you possibly succeed? It doesn't really matter what great products you may have.

Without a list, you simply won't be in business.

Your opt-in list is the lifeblood of your business. It's your source of customers.

Where would Wal-Mart be without customers? Where would any store be without people ready and willing to shop?

The same is true on the Internet. Your opt-in list is your main source of customers.

By building your own opt-in list, you can dramatically reduce the cost of advertising, because you get to mail your list for free.

In fact, each name and email address on your list, has a potential value of $1.00 per month to you (when used properly). So a list of 2,000 opt-in addresses can deliver a potential $2,000 to your bank account.

Now imagine how your bank account is going to look when you have a list of 5,000 people. How about 10,000? Or 50,000!

So ask yourself which you'd rather have right now? A great product, or a large list of targeted opt-ins?

Of course, you need a combination of both. But you need the opt-in list first and foremost!

How do you get an opt-in list?

You get yourself an opt-in list the same way any business gets its customers. You offer an incentive!

With any business, you first need to gain the trust of the people interested in your product.

So the incentive you offer should be something of value. It must be something needed by your potential clients. And you must offer it for free (I'll get back to this in a moment).

Use traffic exchanges

A traffic exchange is a great way to build an opt-in list.

I don't mean an automated traffic exchange. They're a waste of time. I'm talking about a manual traffic exchange.

You really can build your opt-in list using a manual traffic exchange.

Unfortunately, most Internet marketers are using these exchanges the wrong way.

What they're doing wrong!

Getting a traffic exchange to work is a simple matter.

Don't sell. Give something away.

I'll repeat it. You must give away something of value, free of charge.

You should not display your site on a traffic exchange. Most sites are simply too busy, and need more time to make an impact than is possible on a traffic exchange.

The person using the traffic exchange does not start out interested in your site. He or she is only interested in getting you to look at his/her site.

So what should you do?

Easy ...

Create a Splash Page.

A splash page is a doorway to information. It loads quickly, and the content of the page can be read and understood in just a few seconds.

A good splash page is a study in simplicity. How simple? Consider a single page with an interesting headline that stimulates curiosity. This headline is followed by a few lines of explanation, and a short form for the viewer to fill out.

On this short form, you ask the potential client for a name and email address.

This form is connected to your auto-responder. When the potential client fills out the form, it goes directly to your auto-responder. Your free information is then sent out to the person who has just opted-in to your list.

That's all there is to it!

Here's what you need to make this happen
1. Get a great free report or give-away ready to go
2. Create your splash page
3. Make sure it has a great headline
4. Get an auto-responder, and load it with trust-building messages

And remember, don't go for the hard-sell in your first few emails. Your goal is to first build confidence and trust.

Why not start selling immediately?

Because your prospect doesn't yet know you. Why would he or she buy from a complete stranger?

Let your potential clients get to know you first. You don't have to be overly personal. Simply let the real you shine through. For example ...

1. What are your hobbies?
2. Do you have a family?
3. Are you into sports?
4. Recommend freebies that you've found useful

You'll soon get yourself a ton of opt-ins (sooner than you think). So be prepared.

Yes, it takes a little patience. You need to focus on this task. But it's worth it.

The first time you get a good response from a mailing to 10,000 targeted subscribers, you'll be blown away by the money you can make!

Smart marketers have retired overnight following this simple, but rarely taken road. Bombing your list with offer after offer hoping to make quick and fast cash surely will have your members removing themselves from your list as fast as they can.

So don't sell, Build!

The well known guru Mark Joyner has been known to sit back for 6 to 9 months, building his list and cautiously targeting his audience, giving away freebies and bonuses. All the time, he's building trust and credibility.

When the time comes to reap the benefits of his list-building, using the list in a responsible manner, he is known to have made six-figures!

Mike Filsaime's success can be found by his almost genius use of free viral marketing sites to build his list.

Yes, the list is very important. But it's how you create and build it that matters.

This is the worst-kept marketing secret on the Internet. Everybody knows about it, but nobody actually does it.

Ask any Internet marketing guru whether or not they would trade their Targeted Opt-in List for:

- The Best Products,

- The Best Software

- A Fabulous Home or an Expensive Automobile :- )

and You'll get a resounding NOOOO!

That's How Valuable a Targeted Opt-In List is to Your Internet Business!

Take my advice ...

You gotta Build That List!

3 Innovative Ways To Build An Optin Email List That Stands Above The Crowd
 by: Kori Puckett

With so many optin email lists out there, your really need to come up with a hook to attractive subscribers. It needs to have something special or different. It could be something you offer inside every newsletter issue, like interviews with experts. Or the hook could be a unique incentive that website vistors can take advantage of immediately when they sign up.

Here are 3 ideas you can use for your own sites, or use as inspiration to get you thinking a little outside of the box:

-- Build an Optin Email List by Creating a Private Members Only Site or Section --

Create a private web site and have people sign up to get free, immediate access. For example, you could say, "Subscribe to our free e-zine and get free access to our private membership web site!" You can choose to have them receive a username and password every time they want to login, or you can just provide a link to the site in your welcome email.

Your private members only site can be as big or as small as you want. Some of the things you can include inside are: reports, software, articles, ebooks, etc. Inside the site, you can advertise your affiliate programs, as well. And you can follow-up to let them know about updates, new products they might be interested in, the latest news in your industry, etc.

-- Build an Optin Email List By Giving Subscribers a Free, Tangible Gift --

Instead of offering a free ebook (or a whole package of them) like most everybody else, promise to give your visitors something they can hold in their hands if they give you their contact information.

For example, you could say "Subscribe today and get our new report mailed to you via First Class." You could print out your report on standard 8 x 11 sheets of paper, fold it up, put it inside an envelope, and mail it off.

Or you can offer a tips booklet and mail it to new subscribers. Or you can create your own CD full of information targeted toward your market and mail that. Or if you have a wholesale supply of a product of interest to your subscribers, then you can send one to each new subscriber. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

Follow-up possibilities include: articles (your own or written by others), tips you pick up, news in your niche, reviews of products or other interested, related websites, etc.

-- Build an Optin Email List Through a Contest or Sweepstakes --

Hold a free contest or sweepstakes at your website where they must give their contact information, including their email address, to enter. Make the prize something that your niche market will be interested in. Otherwise, they'll never want to enter.

If you already have an ezine up and running, you could offer free automatic entry for new subscribers. For example, you could say, "Subscribe to our free newsletter and get automatic entry into our contest." You'll also want to retroactively include current subscribers.

You can announce the winner(s) at the end, as well as send any new contest announcements or product announcements. Or you can make this an ongoing contest, where you give away the same thing to one (or more) lucky people every month. That way you'll entice many subscribers to stay on your list.

You can find niche products to give away through wholesalers or dropshippers. Or you can create it yourself. One of my favorite ways to do this is create a CD-Rom with a guide or report (or sometimes several) that my niche market will find interesting.

Once again, you can follow-up with tips, articles, news, new product announcements, or just an announcement of each monthly winner(s).

Hopefully, now I've inspired you to take some action or encouraged ideas of your own with these tips. Any idea, the more popular it gets, requires you to think outside the box every now and then in order to be effective. Building an optin email list is no different. And with newsletters and ezines saturating the Internet day by day, you need to offer something a little different to make them want to sign up to yours. Or you'll just end up getting left behind.

The Importance Of An Email List For Your Online Business And How To Create One
 by: Douglas Titchmarsh

For any business whether offline or online you need customers. It's much easier to get potential customers into your online store, or business website, by a number of different means, search engine traffic, adverts of many kinds, or from links on other sites. It doesn't matter how they got there in the first place, as long as they buy, you can capture some details then and send them updates on your later offers or deals. But what about if these visitors don't buy, how do you bring them back again if you offer a better deal in the future, or have new products they may be interested in?

That's where an email list becomes your best friend, and online businesses biggest asset. You need to capture those email addresses before the visitor leaves. This is so important that the big name online marketers make building a subscriber list one of their main activities. Some of the figures bandied about concerning email lists may be erroneous, but from my own personal experience, they're not too far out, so I will repeat them here.

Figures quoted for the value of each subscriber range from 50 cents to 1 dollar per subscriber per month, so the larger the subscriber list you have the more you can make each month, you do the maths for yourself. There is a caveat to this, your subscriber list needs to be targeted, ie it's no use trying to sell high heeled shoes to a predominately male audience, or sending your best ad for gardening tools to people who sign up on a site about rap music, if they have little interest you won't make anything. It's also claimed that sales increase after the potential customer has received several emails from an online business, and the extra sales are in the order of over 50% of customers purchase when they are more comfortable with the seller following receipt of the emails.

So now we know the value of having an email list, how do we start to build our own subscriber base?

The easiest method is to use an online "autoresponder" such as getresponse.com which you can preload with messages ready to send to anyone who signs up. Then you will need a way for your website visitors to subscribe to your newsletter or sales letter series, all good autoresponders will give you some html code ready to paste into your webpages into which visitors can place their name and email address as a minimum, and some will allow you to include boxes for more information should you require it.

You now need to post this code into a visible spot in your webpage(s) and make it as easy as possible for your visitor to sign up for your email subscriber list. Now you have a way to capture contact details to give you a second chance at making a sale even after your visitor has left your site. So that's it sit and wait for those subscribers to sign up.

Hold on a minute, why would they want to sign up for your newsletter, or email series?

You need to give the visitor a good reason to subscribe to your list, after all they probably already get enough emails from spam, friends sending them the latest joke, and other online businesses who have their address, so you need to sweeten the deal in their favour. One of the easiest ways to attract subscribers is to offer a free gift for subscribing. The gift can be as simple as making the emails a course to teach them something about the topic of your website, a free ebook (there are plenty available on a variety of subjects if you don't have one to give away already, search in your favourite search engine) or you could offer a competition where subscribers can win one of your products. Whatever you do, try to make it an offer the visitor will find it hard to turn down, and they will subscribe to get it.

So these are the reasons to start your own subscriber list, and an overview of how to start getting subscribers, but what sort of emails should you send as your list grows?

Obviously if you are just selling something, and want to remind visitors why they went to your site in the first place, then send them some information about your product(s) in a series of emails, and include a reminder of the original link so they can go back to review the salespage and hopefully buy. There is a more subtle way though. Information is why most people are looking on the internet, so it makes sense to make your emails informational, and gently bring your sales pitch to the subscribers as part of the information. If you don't have time to write your own informational articles, you can search in article directories for ones written on the topic your site and newsletter deal with, just follow the directories terms for using the articles. These articles can then be preloaded into your autoresponder along with your additional promotional text, ready to be sent. Once it is setup, it can be all left to run automatically.

Hopefully you will now see the benefits of using email newsletters to increase your online business, or website visits, and see that it's not too difficult to get started. An article of this type can only give you an overview of the basics of email subscriber lists for online businesses, but there is plenty more available online, and I'd recommend you to find out more about it, especially how to avoid spam complaints. But most importantly, start your own email subscriber list today, and watch your business grow.

7 Ways To Make Money Using Nothing More Than Your Subscriber List
 by: David Barnard

An opt-in list can be quite crucial to any site or internet based company. Even for a small venture such as a niche profit site an opt-in list can make a world of difference and also add some extra income for your pocket. Rarely would you see an e-commerce site, big or small, that is without an opt-in list.

An opt-in list allows for a company to market their wares and site via an e-mail. With an opt-in list, a site and a subscriber consents to sending and receiving a newsletter from your company. Through this, you can keep your subscribers informed of what is currently available on your site as well as whatever is coming out.

And because there is mutual consent between the two parties, any mail sent to the list is not considered as spam mail. There is a great number of successfully read promotional materials such as catalogs, newsletters and such that are sent because the subscribers themselves have signed up for them, meaning, they do want to be sent those items.

Building a list is crucial, only a small percentage will actually subscribe for an opt-in list. Many people find promotional mails annoying but if you provide a good newsletter or promotional material, you will see your list build up and grow. You can also achieve this by having good content on your site. If people like what they see and read on your site, then they surely would want more. Newsletters would be a way to attract them back to your site. A little teaser or appetizer if you will.

But other than marketing your wares and your services, an opt-in list can also be used to earn extra profit. Not all lists can be used though. It would be good to first build a successful list with a huge number of subscribers. The more subscribers you have, the more money you can get. Here are seven ways to make money using nothing more than your list.

1. Place advertisements. There are many corporations who will be willing to pay to put their banners and ads on a list with many subscribers. Selling or renting out lists is not a good idea, so rather than doing that, many companies would just rather place ads with lists that have a huge subscriber base. Your newsletter could be placed with many ads and each one spells money.

2. Have affiliations with other companies that have at least a semblance or relation to what your site is about. Here other companies will provide links and brief descriptions of what they offer, products and services. With every click made on the link that directs or leads a subscriber from your list to their site, the company will pay you. This is known as P4P or pay for performance.

3. Make deals with other companies by asking for a small percentage of sales done through your list. With every sale done by customers that have come from your list and have gone there because of your newsletter, the other company will pay you a small percentage of your sales. The more people who buy from them, the more earnings you get.

4. You may also get products from other sites on a consignment basis and sell them to your list via your newsletter. Place descriptions, articles and photos of the product in your newsletter. There will be those who will buy from you and when that happens, you can order the product from the other site and sell it to your buyer.

5. Sell e-books or a compilation of your articles on your list. Manuals and how-to articles are in great demand. Many people will be willing to shell out money to gain knowledge about a certain topic and subject. With your existing list trusting your expertise in that area, an e-book could be offered and sold or used as an incentive.

6. Create a network out of your list. Get people to invite more people to view your site and subscribe to your list. The larger your list is, the more people will be able to click on your links and affiliate links as well as make your advertisement rates higher.

7. Subscribers are willing to pay for information if they know that it can be trusted and relied upon. Use your list to get more and more people to subscribe to you as well as browse your site. Lastly, you can use your list to earn money by making them your partners. Your list will be the bloodline of your growth and increase.

How to Build An Opt-In Mailing Lists?

One of the powerful tools in online “email” marketing is to build an opt-in mailing list.

The best gift of this powerful tool is the possibility of being able to talk to people who are
particularly interested in your product, service or organization.

There are do’s and don’ts in starting your opt-in mailing list. Here are some of the most important tips worth mentioning:

DO’S

1.Put a subscription form prominently on your website. You can create your own subscription form using a software Sign-Up to’s form builder.

2.Inform people that they can subscribe to your email list on the signature of your normal work emails. This will enable it to link straight through the form on your website.

3.Ask people permission if they do want to be subscribed on your mailing list. As much as possible avoid being suspected for SPAM.

4.Open options for subscription especially during your interactions with them. Always be ready with your subscription cards if you run in on events.

5.Be clear on how people can benefit from subscribing and how often will you contact them. Make them know exactly what they will be receiving.

6.If you can, contact new subscriber as soon as you can. Welcome them with notes and tell them what to expect.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and list experts is time. If you'll invest a little more time in reading, you'll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to list.

DON’T

1.Add everyone who has ever emailed you to your list. Always ask permission first.

2.Purchase lists that you are not 100% sure that are opt-in. Always have an evidence to prove the legitimacy of the opt-ins.

3.Abuse people’s trust. This is a sure way to ruin your brand and you. Soon enough they will ignore your messages.

Building your opt-in mailing list is cheaper than in sending direct mails. Printing, envelopes and paper used as material further add up to the cost. Here are some ways to effectively start your opt-in mailing list:

1.Free Newsletter. One of the most effective ways to build an opt-in list is to offer your online visitors freebies of value such as newsletter which will contain information that they can relate to such as tips, tools, recipes, travel itineraries and others.

2.Make it Easy to Subscribe. Provide easy steps for subscription so that subscribers may find it easy to do so and would not be discourage. For more subscribers, tell them the exact benefits they can get out of the subscription.

3.Quality Content. Be sure that what is written inside the newsletter, freebies and information found in your website are all of value to increase visitors dropping by your website.

4.Forums. Discussion boards and forums are all over the net. Try to actively participate in these boards especially those in the line of your interest or your business. Try to build your reputation with credibility.

5.Write articles. This makes you an instant expert in your chosen field of interest. You just have to play on it and use it well in your business goal.

6.Co-registration. A very effective way to build a monster list in a very short time.

7.Write an e-book. An excellent freebie for those who visited and subscribe in your mailing list. The e-book does not have to be expensively made or elaborate but it can be a compilation or a collection of best articles, business tips and resources.

In building opt-in mailing lists always keep in mind to offer something of value to your prospects. Remember opt-in lists are the foundations of most profitable internet business so do not miss chances for improvement and developing new strategies.

Take a look at these 10 Quick Easy Steps to Building A Highly Targeted and Responsive Opt-in List.

1.Choose your target market or niche. Remember you are not the only one competing in internet marketing; you have to be sure who your internet marketing is.

2.Be sure that you can reach your target audience online.

3.Do not waste on time on a non-profit investment or spending. Always monitor your spending.

4.Forums and discussion boards are available for maximum use. Find your target market problems.

5.Identify what is keeping your customers from getting what they want and help them get it.

6.Try offering your viewers solving some of their problems.

7.Set up a simple direct response mini-site.

8.Get an auto-responder account. It is important for you to acquire and set this thing up because this is where your visitors will come.

9.Bait your potential customers through giveaways like: ebooks, special reports, mini courses and coupons, etc.

10.Reach out in any way you can to your target market.

Opt-in building is a tedious work but with amazing results. The process of building it takes time and effort but persists. Always treat your “find” as a goldmine so that you will offer them the best deals in the market, those with great quality and value. Doing all
these, would earn you credibility and a profitable business on the Internet.

How To Build A List Of Eager Subscribers

Every online business provides great service to generate satisfaction among their customers. As each and every customer receives satisfaction over their products or the services they get, there is a great chance that they will become a return customer and buy again. Better yet, they will recommend you to other people that could generate more business for you and your site.

As more traffic is driven to your site, you can entice many of them to subscribe to your mailing list or opt-in list. This is a list where in website visitors agree to be sent promotional materials such as newsletters, catalogs and such that could keep them updated about your site or the niche of your site. These promotional materials are sent via e-mail to the members of the list in different time intervals.

When using e-mail as the media of your marketing and advertisements, you eliminate the need for high costs. Email is free and if you can manage to make your own promotional advertisements you can also save a bundle there. With an opt-in subscribers list, you are pretty sure that what you are sending out is received, viewed and read by the subscribers and not simply being deleted. They have signed up for service and have consented in receiving it.

This means that there are constant reminders to your subscribers about all your products, new products and services as well as any promotions and special deals you are having. There is also the chance that they can be forwarded to other potential customers as they tell their friends and families about you and your site.

Of course you should be also aware that a subscriber may unsubscribe when they feel that they are not getting what they want or expected. Make sure that they are satisfied with your opt-in marketing strategies and keep them excited in receiving your newsletters and catalogs. Here are some tips that can help you build a list of eager subscribers.

Make your promotional materials interesting and fun. Try to use a little creativity but not too over artsy. Build around what your product or service is about. For example; if you are selling car parts, put some pictures of what is new in the auto parts world, a new wing door possibly that can fit any car and make it look like a Lamborghini.

Try to research what people are looking for, these way, you stay one step ahead of them all the time and you will be their bearer of new tidings. They will be eager to receive what you are sending them because they new you always have fresh and new things to share with them.

Write good articles that can be very informational but light at the same time. If your subscribers enjoy your articles, they will go to your site by clicking the links that you will be putting on your newsletter to read some more. You can provide articles that can connect to many people. Be diverse in your articles. Put something humorous, then put something informational, then put something that has both.

Are you wary about this because you don’t like writing? No problem, there are many professional and experienced article writers that   can do the job for you for minimal fees. They know what they are doing and can provide the need that you have for your newsletters, the money that you pay for your articles are going to be met by the many sign-ups and the potential profit from the sales that you will get.

Create and send an E-book to your customers about anything that is related to your business or site. Use your knowledge and expertise in the field you have chosen to help other people who are similarly interested. Offer this e-book for free. You can write about anything informational and helpful to your subscribers. For example; you can do manuals and guides in so many things. This e-book could be used as a reference for many people.

Share this e-book with everyone, even other sites; just make sure that they don’t change the links in the e-book that will lead people to your site. If you want, you can always get some people to write it for you just like your articles. Your investment once again will be covered by the great marketing this will generate.

Add e-coupons in your newsletters that will help them avail to special discounts. Put a control number in your e-coupon so that they can only be used once. When people get discounts that can be found in your newsletters, they will be eager to receive your newsletter in anticipation of what you are promoting next.

If your subscribers can get benefits from your newsletters, they will be very eager to receive them. Just don’t flood your mailing list with mails so that you don’t annoy your subscribers.
